At home, it’s a toss-up between John Grisham and Jan Karon (the At Home in Mitford series). At school, it's probably Beverly Cleary. Maybe Dr. Seuss.

Probably Little Women. I also have several sets of The Chronicles of Narnia series and The Lord of the Ring trilogy.
3) Did it bother you that both those questions ended with prepositions?
Not those two questions so much. But I HATE the question, "Where are you AT?" Ugh. It's "Where are you?".

It's a tie beween Little Women, all of The Lord of the Rings books, and the first book in Jan Karon's series: At Home in Mitford.

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis, and any book by Judy Blume.

The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. Excellent, excellent book. Destined to be a classic.

I'm not sure your most lowbrow book is sufficiently lowbrow. haha
I fully admit that it took me more than two tries to read Anna Karenina. I haven't tried Infinite Jest, but I'm considering it.

OH my goodness! Isn't it funny what books we end up accumulating! You had me thinking there. I have two copies of Little Women, one is part of a whole set the other the original. Loved them along with Enid Blyton books as a child. I had to sit and think what I had the most of though. Being such an avid reader I don't own most of what I like. My most owned collection besides Louisa May Alcotts set and Enid Blytons lot, is by a medium from the UK. Betty Shine. Loved her books. My favourite authors at the moment are Barbara Erskine and Jody Picoult. Don't get me started on movies though. Just saw My sisters Keeper and was very pissed off that they changed the story to suit the movie crowd. It took away from the whole book. Most upset was I!!!! LOL~ Now I know why I don't go to the damned movies! My sister in law loved it so much she watched it twice in a week. While I loved the acting I was just pissed off that they changed the story! Why change something when its good??? Grrrrr, so did I ever mention I don't particularly like TV? Oh and that first few years when I was supposed to be deprived from reading with all those new babies....well I did not watch TV, OKay? All I can say is my babies learned to read very young! LOL
The other day, my husband and I looked around and realized that we were being taken over by books! And we set out to remove them from our house and set them free for other people to enjoy... What we are left with is very telling.
Of my five favorite authors (Nevada Barr, JA Jance, Patricia Cornwell, Stephen King, Dean Koontz), I have only kept the series by Nevada Barr to re-read. I've read the others to death. I kept my copies of Gone with the Wind and Scarlett, all my books about writing, my how-tos, reference books, and historical biographical stuff. I realized that keeping those books here and on my shelves, while gratifying, was almost the equivalent of keeping someone locked in a closet. There are other people out there who would like to read them but can't afford them - so off they go!
Jay - My lowbrow book was nothing more than a smut novel. I loved it! (grin) Let me know if you start Infinite Jest. I might need some help!
Karisma - I keep meaning to try Jodi Piccoult. I completely forgot Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys.
Sayre - That is a great idea. I need to do that. I have WAY too many books. They need to be shared.
