Sunday Snippets

It's been a funky weekend. I realized the other day that I hadn't written a "regular" post in awhile. So here we are. Let's recap:

Last Monday was my second work day. No big deal there.

Tuesday was my first day with students and Rachael's first day of her junior year of high school. Here is her happy face that morning. It was a hectic day all around. Not only did Steven make it into town for an overnight, but "Just Dave" was in Indiana and we had already arranged a coffee meet. I flew out of school, ran up the highway to spend an hour or so with Dave. It was so great to meet him, since Steven and I had missed seeing him when we were in Colorado. See the lovely picture of the two of us in the sidebar.

Wednesday we got up early so I could take Steven to his truck up the road, and then hurry home to make our traditional "back-to-school" breakfast of Pillsbury orange danish rolls. Here is our annual "back-to-school" picture, taken on the front porch of this house every year since the year Joseph started kindergarten. This is the first year in 13 years that Joseph is NOT in the picture.

Thursday came and went with little fanfare. The kids were noticeably more tired, and I was too.

Friday was a good day at school, but it ended with disappointment for me because Steven lost a load going from Texas to Michigan due to an absolutely incompetent shipper. Going from Texas to Michigan would have brought him right through here. Sigh.

The rest of the weekend has been mostly uneventful. I had a little time to myself yesterday, but a lot of time to myself today, which was really great. I'm having more trouble with allergies, which is resulting in a lot of sneezing. I hope it's not the new kitten.

Long distance relationships are tough. Steven and I have had our ups-and-down this weekend. It's hard when there are a lot of emotions on both ends, and we can't seem to get together to share our thoughts and feelings. But mostly we agree that the tough times are worth the effort. I miss him!

Other thoughts:

**Haven't the Olympics been great? I love watching the swimming, the running, and the gymnastics. The only thing that has really bugged me is how many times they have mentioned how old Dara Torres is. It's like her name isn't Dara Torres, it's "41 year old Dara Torres". Okay, we get it. She's 41. Move on. I also love Michael Phelps.

**I am reading The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch and it's great. I would love to give a "last lecture" someday. I'm also reading "The Secret Life of CeCe Wilkins", but I'm almost finished with it. It's so engrossing, I read for two hours today while having lunch at McCallister's today. I sat at the table where Steven and I had one of our first dates and talked for hours.

**I have been thinking lately that I would love to be a high school English teacher. I wonder what I would have to do to add on to the licenses I already have.

** I STILL haven't gotten to see "Mama Mia" or "StepBrothers". I did watch a bunch of movies this weekend, all of which I had already seen: "Mr.and Mrs. Smith", "Wedding Crashers", and "National Treasure". I wanted to buy "The Lake House" at Best Buy today, but they didn't have it.

** I am contemplating a weekend drive down to Nashville, Tennesee, to meet some blog/twitter buddies: LadyJaye, Carrie, and JmDawg. Unfortunately, now that football season has started, and soccer season will be starting in 2 weeks, I wonder if I will have any free time on any weekend.

** Joseph leaves for college a week from Tuesday. Yikes!

Well, that's all for now. I need to head for bed soon.

Tomorrow is the first day of school here and I can't wait! It's the return to routine that has me so excited. Odd, isn't it?

Long distance relationships can be very hard indeed. But if you're both in agreement that it's worth it, you'll do whatever it takes to make it work!

We went to see the Star Wars Clone Wars this morning - and LOVED it! Then DM and I watched Shallow Hal this afternoon. It's been an odyssey of chick flicks for him lately and he's learning a lot! I think his favorite so far is Princess Diaries.

Nice update. But I'm concerned about your mental health. I'm referring to your visit to McCallister's for lunch where you sat at a table and talked for hours. I know it's not unusual for a woman to talk for hours, but they are usually talking to someone specific.

The 10 things I like about "J":

She is an excellent listener.
She likes it when I hold her hand.
She Loves ME! Which I may add is not an easy task. I am a true Gemini!
She has a real heart of gold. (there are few of her kind left in this world.)
She lets me hold her very tight, very, very tight + close when we sleep.
She makes me laugh with her corny jokes.
She makes me feel like I actually have a clue!
She lets me run my fingers through her hair - non stop.
She's the prettiest girl I know.
She has a heart warming, genuine smile for everyone.

I love J. And I'm glad ya'll do too.

You sound tired. I'm a former teacher and I remember those hectic days of back to school. It's good to be back but there goes the summer. Ahhh! I hope your school year is a good one, J.
Keep Smiling!

Sayre - I hope Z-boy had a great first day. I'm glad to hear good things about the Star Wars movie. I have promised Aaron we will go this weekend.

E.Craig - May I politely suggest that you kiss my butt? You knew what I meant, goofy! Men!

Jay - Oh yeah. Especially with football season. But I do love to watch my boy play! Yahoo!

Sexy Trucker - You know you melt my heart when you say or write things like that. I love you.

Tookie - It's not too bad so far. We hit the ground running. I DO like being back on a schedule.

RWA - That is the look a 16 yr.old girl gives her cheesy picture-taking mother on the first early morning. She really loves me...she just hides it well sometimes.

I will kiss your butt ONLY IF you give me half an hour to draw a crowd at Third & Main for the BIG event. ;-)
