Planets and Other Ramblings......

Happy Father's Day everyone! I hope all the terrific dads out there had a great day. I had a very nice weekend (most of it). 3 of the 4 kids left Friday night with their dad. Joseph got his drivers license Friday morning, so he was anxious to take the car without me. So I spent a quiet evening at home Friday night with a thin-and-crispy veggie pizza and some movies. Yesterday I slept late, browsed Borders for two hours, came home and watched movies and vegged most of the day. Today was more sleeping, lunch at my parents' house, and cleaning.

It would not be cool to write a mean and hateful rant about my ex on Father's Day since he IS the father of my children (she cringes as she types the last few words). But I WILL say that he is an irresponsible idiot and I am really angry with him right now because once again he has lost something, cost me money, and acted as if he really doesn't give a shit. Because he doesn't. And although I don't expect him to ever change, his behaviors still make me furious.

If you are married to someone who is a good dad, be thankful. If the father of your children puts their needs ahead of his own more often than not, be thankful. If you are a dad, or a grandpa, who truly loves your children and grandchildren, I am thankful for you, because you are setting a good example for my children in this world. For my father, my brother Tony, and my sister's husband Joe I am truly thankful because they have stepped in and mentored my children where their father has not. I am aware that, had I married someone else, I would not have the children I have but it also saddens me that I didn't choose better for them.

If you are young and/or unmarried, listen to me: Choose carefully who you have children with because you are choosing so much more than to conceive. You are choosing your children's potential intelligence, their future health, and their role models. And you are forever and irreversibly bound to this person. If you have a child with this person you will never, ever be able to get away from him. Unless he dies. (small smile)

Sorry so unfriendly. This is actually as civilized as I can muster right now.
Hope all you wonderful and responsible dads had a great day!
J.

PS. Here's a fun quiz to make up for my foul mood:

YOU ARE FROM VENUS

You Are From Venus

You love all forms of beauty. You love dressing up and anything luxurious.

A social butterfly, you're incredibly popular and a great host.

You're known for your fairness and affection. And as a frind to all.

Careful though! You're desire to please may make you too willing to conform.

Be yourself. Focus on what matters to you. You'll be all the more popular for it.

Which Planet Are You?

I read on Dooce the other day a piece of advice that stuck with me and really made me think. It was something along the lines of "Don't marry a man unless you could be proud if you had a son that turned out just like him."

Father's Day always makes me a little sad, because my father isn't the best of fathers. He's not physically absent, but I think he's quite emotionally absent, which is also tough.

Anyways, I am from Neptune!

"You are dreamy and mystical, with a natural psychic ability.
You love music, poetry, dance, and (most of all) the open sea.
Your soul is filled with possibilities, and your heart overflows with compassion.
You can be in a room full of friendly people and feel all alone.
If you don't get carried away with one idea, your spiritual nature will see you through anything."

I know this was a difficult enough post given an earlier phone call we shared, but I'm glad you kept this thoughtful + perky.

Very true words of wisdom about children.

Here's my sign:

Good advice about being careful who you have kids with. Luckily, women I've known have been really careful and not had any kids with me. See, I like smart chicks. ;-)

Have a good day!

This was a very good post. One of the things I am very grateful for is that my husband is a good father. He and my son are very close. Even if he and I split up one day, I have no regrets in choosing his as my boy's father. If fact, I chose him BEFORE we ever hooked up in one of those if-you-could-choose discussions!

I am Pluto (I don't exist as a planet???)

You are a dark, mysterious soul, full of magic and the secrets of the universe.
You can get the scoop on anything, but you keep your own secrets locked in your heart.
You love change and you use it to your advantage, whether by choice or chance.
You don't like to compromise, to the point of being self-destructive with your stubborness.
Live life with love, and your deep powers will open the world to you.
