Oh, the pain!

Here's a very short list for you.

Reasons to NOT talk about stressful and emotional subjects late at night:
  1. Heartburn
  2. Heartburn
  3. Heartburn!

My acid reflux is acting up so bad right now that I am horribly uncomfortable just sitting up, much less attempting to lay down! That'll teach ME to get into gnarly subjects on the phone at midnight!

ADDENDUM: If you're going to stay up until 2 in the
morning talking and moaning about your stomach, be sure you have a powerful alarm clock. I horribly overslept this
morning! Arrrgh!

Zantac. That's what my doctor says will kill the heartburn the fastest. When I forget to take my Nexium, I get the acid reflux back almost immediately and have to resort to other medications...

I too have severe acid reflux, I take Prilosec OTC once a day and it works real well for the most part but stress and eating within 3 hrs. of bedtime still makes for a miserable night trying to sleep sitting up.

I take the Kirkland Brand [Costco] of Famotidine, 20mg. It is considered to be maximum strength. Costco labels it "Acid Controller."

If I do not swallow 1 tablet every evening I get horrible heartburn, and usually reflux.

Famotidine can be taken before a meal, but the label cautions to not use more than two tablets in 24 hours.

As other posts point out, there are a number of acid control drugs available. Find one that works for you and stick with it.

Birdman - Are you saying yoga helps hearburn problems?

Sayre - I take Zantac now, the 150 mg. kind. I usually forget to take the second pill until it's too late. If I get heartburn, I can usually take a pill and feel better within the hour. But stress makes it worse.

R.E.H. - I have firmly resolved to avoid any such conversations tonight. AND I have already taken my pill. So hopefully I will get some rest.

Truckindog - I forgot the "no eating 3 hours before bed" rule. I won't forget it tonight.

Brother Dave - I have been getting lots of signals from my body lately that I need to get back on my strict diet. These late night attacks are just one signal. I hate getting older.

I hope this post finds you feeling much better, J. Actually, you are fortunate to be able to eliminate the acid reflux and heartburn through diet rather than having to rely on drugs.

Totally been there and done that...peppermint has helped me more than once...
