Cyber Stalkers and Lurkers....

I've been checking out the old Stat Counter stats page and it's creeping me out:

Somebody in New Jersey, or at least gets his/her Internet from New Jersey, has been scoping me out. A lot. This is the most recent visit. The last one he/she went back through the archives extensively AND did a search for "HoosierGirl" and "Baron" (my ex-boyfriend). Why?! Hardly anyone know my handle AND his. Who is this? What do you want?

This is the place where the coffee roasters are from. How the heck did they find out I wrote about them and link to it?

Finally, I have figured out the one true way to drive your hit counter up: Refer to lines from country songs in your posts. I get tons of searches for that Sugarland song I mentioned awhile back, and the Rascal Flats pictures I posted.

So, I am issuing a challenge: If you're reading this blog, let me know who you are, friend or foe.
Identify yourself in the comments.
DE-Lurk, damn it. Inquiring minds want to know. Okay, maybe inquiring minds don't care, but I want to know.

Thank you,
J.

The second bit's easy. If you link to another site they can easily come find you. Sort of internet reverse engineering.

York,
Where have you been? I've lost the link to your new blog. Send it to me!

Sometimes, the rogue hits are from indexing services, not neccessarily from a human bean. :) Other times, it's someone who has a reader. Each time I open mine, it runs out and pings everyone in it. That hit is like part of a shotgun blast across the net.

Hope you find what you are looking for.

Looks like that first user is actually from Georgia, hence the ga.comcast.net.

I get some super-crazy stuff on my stat counter. I've been know to block certain people. It's easier to do on Word Press but I understand that it can be done on Blogger too.

I've asked people to de-lurk before with no luck. I've even asked them to email me privately if they don't wish to comment publicly. Sometimes I just block their IP address if it they are searching and/or reading in a way that freaks me out.

Good luck!

Oh, and you know who I am, right? ;-)

You can find out who links to your site a number of different ways. So the dudes at the coffee place checked to see who was linking to them and found you. They probably look for good and bad things said about them all the time. Glad you were saying something good!

Something to think about next time I'm bitching about somebody or something huh? LOL

Hoosiergirl5,
I am your gacomcast person. I'm not dangerous or a stalker, but rather a curious person interested in knowing a bit more about Baron based on some of what you said the other day.

" Which leads to another reason for the blahs...I read on my former boyfriend's blog that he is "looking forward to spending time with a new friend." (Sigh) I decided to delete the link to his blog, and the links to his ex's blog and her new husband's blog. I liked reading their blogs because it kept me up on what his girls were doing, but I think it is healthier to just stop reading. I still think about him every day, and I will miss his girls a lot."

I was searching for a link to his blog to see what you were referring to in yours. So as you can see I am just a bit curious, but not someone you need to worry about. I have been reading your blog since I stumbled across it a few months ago. Frankly, I was glad to see you cut him free when you did. I didn't think he was right for you and I didn't want you to settle for what he seemed willing to give you. I didn't feel like it was my business then to comment and I really shouldn't offer my two cents now, but oh well...there it is.

I would say the coffee company is no big deal. They probably do a search from time to time to see what people are saying about them.

The other one, I have no idea.

FH -
I think I did.

Lisa - Yes, dear, I know who you are and I'm so glad you stop by so often. (smile)

Wordstruk - Welcome! Thanks for de-lurking. Just so long as you're not Baron's new girlfriend.

RWA - I didn't really care about the coffee company except all I gave them was my e-mail address, not my blog site or Blogger name. I just don't know how they connected the two, unless they just google-searched their own name.

Dazed - Yes sir, I remember you. I read you often. Thanks for the meme tag. I love those.

Corky - Yes, I know who you are, too. Fellow Louisvillian, soon-to-be new dad. I read you, too.

This was a fun post. I love the responses I got.
