I wanna hold your hand.....

My left hand and my left shoulder hurt.

There are a couple of people who claim they don't read my blog, but if they do I'm sure they are going to think this is hilariously ironic. But oh well, so it goes.

Yesterday I got bit. Not accidentally, like Baron's little girl, and definitely not as traumatically, but deliberately. One of my students, in the midst of one of her anger episodes, bit my left hand and broke the skin. For the record, she also hit me in the face and kicked me, in the course of this outburst. It isn't the first time I've been hit or kicked, but it IS the first time I've been bit.

As my reward, I was sent after school to Occupational Health downtown, where I was treated, courtesy of the Board of Education, to a blood test, a tetanus shot, and the first in a series of 3 Hepatitis B shots.

Less than a half hour after the episode, my little dear was compliant and cooperative. I had no more problems from her the rest of the day, and I had little problem with her today.

((DEEP SIGH))

But my upper arm is still extremely sore. When I wrestled with a different student today, I felt it. My hand is bothering me and I'm tired.

Why am I doing this job????!!!

SIDENOTE:

Stay tuned Thursday for a "high-steppin'" Half-Naked Thursday! It will knock your socks off! (small smile)

I hope you feel better soon. It's too bad teachers don't get Hazard Pay anymore.

Because you're a good person.

You are doing that job because you want to make a difference and those kids need you. I hope your arm and hand are feeling better soon.

A friend of mine works with similar children. She seems to always have some bruises, scratches or bite marks.

I have always had the utmost respect for teachers - but I have even more for those who have the extra patience and passion to work with special children.

Yeah it does takes a special kind of patience to deal with those types of situations everyday. I have a lot of respect for you for that.

You're doing it because you can and there are so many out there who just wont. Hang in there.

That was where my wife was for five years until her current job. Tackling and wrestling kids with emotional problems.

It sucks and you should pass the fight on to someone else.

Start updating your resume honey! I hate those jobs!

What kind of kids are you working with? That is a rough situation!
I am alittle behind, so I hope you are feeling much better by now

Why? Because you get paid so well! LOL!

Wife has SAMBA (sp?) training which 'lets' her take down kids. The principal has talked her into starting a SCORES unit which will be full of high needs/frequent take-down kids. ...but it's not E.D. She thinks it will be good break from 25 folder kids and being lead teacher for all SPED kids. More power to her, but I still wouldn't do what ya'll do. God bless ya!
