It's a Boy!

HoosierGirl and her family would like to announce the newest member of the family:

Moustache Mario or "M&M"

Yes, that's right, we have a new kitten. He is named "Moustache"(by Rachael) because he has white fur under his nose, with a line of black fur that makes him look like he has a little Charlie Chaplin moustache. His middle name, Mario, was given to him by Aaron. I prefer to call him "M&M". He is 9 weeks old and has adjusted to life at our house very well so far. He was already litter-box trained and has done a good job of using his own personal litter box. We bought him a cat bed but so far he prefers to snuggle up in a nook of the couch. Last night he slept mostly ON Rachael. His first couple of hours here yesterday were pure kitten entertainment: he explored the living room from top to bottom. He pounced on a rolled up sock, he tried to chew on a Hot Wheel car, he batted at the phone cord, and he followed us everywhere.

Moustache has not yet officially met our other cat, Butterball. Everything I read online about introducing a new kitten into a house with a cat said to let them "meet" from a distance first. Butterball is aware of M's presence but the kids believe she is pouting, by hiding in my room. It was so funny to watch her watching the kitten from a distance, like "What the hell IS that?". Butterball came out of hiding yesterday afternoon while M&M was asleep on the couch, and she gave me a look like,"I hope you're happy. You have brought that thing into MY house and I'm not talking to you anymore" and she stalked away into the boys' room. I hope eventually that Butterball will be glad to have the company.

I am sure more than one of you thinks I'm crazy for letting the kids get a kitten with everything we already have to juggle this fall. Some people, like my dad and others (hint: Steven) have already told me this is the last thing I need, with school about to start. But I really felt like the time was right. Besides, when our other cat got hit, I promised Rachael that someday I would let her get another cat. We seem to have gotten really lucky with this one. He's very affectionate, social, sleeps well, eats well, and most importantly, does not cry all night.

Keep your fingers crossed!

Awwww!!! I love kittens! All of mine insisted on sleeping on my shoulder, snuggled up under my chin. I always miss that when they get too big to fit under there.

Ahhh!! He's so adorable! (His name is pretty cute too!) I'm more of a dog person than a cat person, and even I think this is adorable!!

Shen-shen - Thanks. He's a doll and VERY friendly.

He's ADORABLE! I love kittens. Butterball will eventually get used to M&M. It took my older cat time to adjust to the kitten but now they get along pretty well. They're not super close but he does clean her every now and then. LOL

When he becomes sexually mature, he will start crying all night. Every night So best to get him neutered. Cats, to me, make the best pets. Low maintenance, soft and fuzzy. I just like cats. Hope yours has a long and happy life.

I believe you were supposed to have the new kitten at this time.

There is actually no wrong time for it. Everything can work out. No need to invent problems where none exist.

Awwwww what a cutie!! I wish I wasn't so darn allergic to cats! I just think they are the sweetest!

LadyJaye - Thanks. He and Butterball had a brief meeting this morning. I think Butterball is afraid of him!

Amy - If I am the cause of you adding another animal to your menagerie, your husband will kill me!

Poppy - More pictures tomorrow. I'm sure you know, being a cat lover yourself, but this cat is too funny. He has such a personality already.

Just Dave - He will be seeing the vet soon, but he's not old enough yet to be neutered. But he will be.

RWA - Thank you.

Brother Dave - This cat is such a social cat. He actually meows when he thinks he's being left out of something.

Tookie - Well, we probably shouldn't have cats either. None of us are majorly allergic but if I touch a cat and then touch my eyes, my eyes get all red. And Joseph claims that make him sneeze. But he's here and he's staying.

Just add a new kitten every couple of years, and someday you'll be known as the neighborhood cat lady. ;-)
