Are You Ready for Some FOOTBALL?!

FOOTBALL practice started for Daniel last night. He was in 7th heaven. It was so hot, but he was happy. By the time he was finished, he was dripping with sweat, but I tell you, he DID NOT CARE.

I honestly don't know a lot about football, but I'm learning. I mean, I know how the game is played, but I get all the positions confused. Daniel played "on the line" both offense and defense last year, but he had the initiative to speak to the coach last night about trying for a running back or fullback position. Since the coach already knows how fast he is (from watching him during track season), he said he could try it.

One big worry: Daniel needs new football cleats and with all the back-to-school expenses, I just don't have the money right now. Not until next payday. I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to pull this off. (sigh)

Speaking of "back to school", those days are just around the corner. My 2 highschoolers start next Wednesday. My first official day of work is next Thursday, and my first student day is the following Monday, August 13. My two younger boys, Daniel and Aaron, start school on the next day, August 14.

I went to 2 very boring training days on reading instruction yesterday and today. The only good things about it were I got some great children's books from the bookstore they had set up, I got to see some of the people I work with, and I got a free book on phonics lessons. Otherwise, a colossal waste of time.

I am really worried about this school year. I don't want to teach EBD (Emotional and Behavior Disorders) students, but I couldn't get out of it. Next year, I will be ready and know the transfer steps and do them early. From a teaching standpoint, I want this year to fly by, but it's Joseph's senior year so I want it to go slowly. And Aaron will make his 1st Communion next spring - so I should relax and enjoy this year, right? Just pray that a year of experience pays off for me and the year goes a little smoother.

*******************************************************************

Good news! Aaron learned to ride his bike today without training wheels. He just wasn't motivated last summer, and this summer he's been riding his scooter. But all of a sudden, he's all over the bike. He was so cute today! I will try to get a picture.

In case you were wondering, Mike (Baron) and I are NOT dating any more. Before he left on his trip, I told him the honest truth about how I felt about him not stepping up to the plate and helping pay for his daughters' orthodontics and helping with another daughter's college expenses. He didn't like what I had to say, and I'm sure he drove to Florida with steam still coming out of his ears. Since he's been back, we've talked once and exchanged some e-mails, but he is still mad at me for telling it like it is. Honestly, I don't want to see him right now, and pretty soon the crush of August will prevent me from having any free time at all.

That's about it for now.

Does school start that early? WOW! I think it's about 2 weeks later around here. I don't know when football practice starts, but I think it's about a week or two away too.

That is amazing and sad to me that kids are in school in mid August!!!
I am glad to hear football is alive and well though. THe only school regret I had was not playing organized football, because of how much I enjoyed it with my friends.

I'm sure that year of experience will be very beneficial.

And, for what it's worth, I think you did the right thing telling Baron your true feelings. Better to do that and see what happens than keep it bottled up inside.

Jay - Starting school this early is insane, but at least it ensures we won't go past the end of May. Trust me, the football players are already practicing.

Birdman - Football has been great for my son. Everything about him from his physical abilities to his confidence and attitude has improved. I can't wait to see what this season will bring.

RWA - Thanks. Your opinion does matter to me. I stand behind what I said to him. He needed to hear it. He didn't like it...but he still needed to hear it.

If you really need help, put up a little pay-pal donation button for your son's cleats. I'm sure you have readers here who would love to help you out. Spread out between friends, the cost can't be THAT much!

I can't believe school starts so soon. I just found out they pushed the start of my son's school back until the day after Labor Day. Hurray!

It's good that you told Baron how you truly felt. How liberating. If he didn't like it- then to hell with him.

I was listening to a news broadcast this morning on my way to the grocery, and heard the newscaster talk about school starting soon. Damn, talk about a short summer break! At least it seemed that way to me. "Back to school" expenses. Clothing & school supplies eat up the budget pretty quickly. Maybe your parents can loan you the money for the football cleats. I imagine you are pretty resourceful, and bet you've had to be for quite some time.

You certainly have good reason to be a proud Mom. I don't know how you do it all. You are an anchor!

And, regarding Baron, good for you. He's not your type, which is something I'll bet you've suspected for some time. But, love is blind. At least for a while.

Thanks for dropping by! I am so glad the return of football season is here! Good luck with all the back to school preparations. I know what you mean about boring training sessions. Every four months we have week long trainings for all the juvenile prison teachers...we try to schedule as much vacation time for the same weeks as possible! Good luck with the EBD students-I know how it feels! :)

I'm used to being one of the first to head back in. We (er, the teachers) have another 3 weeks! Good luck with the changes this year. Hope it works out.

I'm supposed to be coaching. I am going to have to make a call. :)

Way to stick to your principles on the dating tip. I can't imagine trying to get out of supporting a kid of mine.

WTG on telling your Mike like it is...I have a Mike too and heaven knows I have had to give him a piece of my mind on more than one occasion...but he is worth it so I keep him around. Good luck with the job...
