Diet Coke Interventionists.....

Is anyone else getting hassled for the simple pleasure in drinking Diet Coke (or Pepsi or whatever)? You would seriously think that I was snorting cocaine off a ten year old's thigh, the way that people react these days. I KNOW that it has evil carcinogens in it, I KNOW that even the diet stuff will burn the enamel off your teeth, I KNOW that you can clean pennies, toilets etc with the stuff.

But I love it. Always have. Always will.

My love affair with Diet Coke goes way back to college, when I lived in the dorm. Back then I drank regular Coke. The soft drinks were free with our dorm food. So some of my girlfriends and I were going to "teach" ourselves to like Diet Coke instead. We religiously drank glasses and glasses of it with every meal to teach ourselves to like the taste. And we successfully converted.

Later, when I went back to full-time teaching, after having been a stay-at-home mom for 7 years, with 4 children under the age of 11 and one still waking up in the night, it was my early morning wake-up drink. I had a Large Diet Coke on the way to work, another one at lunch, and another on the way home.

Look, at least it kept my eyes open all day.

I have never smoked cigarettes, and although I drank a bit in college, I have never been "hooked" on anything....but I can understand when someone says he need a smoke. When I hit the late afternoon traffic on my way home from a long day at school, I truly NEED a Diet Coke. It has to be the same feeling.

One of my favorite comments from the unfaithful, when seen with something high calorie, like say, a Big Mac and a Diet Coke, is when someone sneers, "Like that Diet Coke is going to help any!" I just smile and politely quote them the "Diet Coke Rule":

" When eating something high in calories, if you drink a Diet Coke (no calories), they cancel each other out."

Really. It’s true.

Ask anyone who drinks Diet Coke.
It's based on complex mathematical formulas and scientific research.
Just ask the guys from Coca-Cola.

THE ONE TRUE diet soft drink is Diet Coke, preferably with crushed ice and/or from Mcdonald’s. I don’t know what they do to their Diet Coke, but a large Diet Coke with ice from Mcdonald’s ALWAYS tastes better than anywhere else, and a fountain Diet Coke ALWAYS tastes better than one from a can. And ALL Diet Coke products in any form are superior to any other diet products.
This is the hierarchy of power in the diet soda world.
Honestly.
Would I lie to you? (grin)

Now, I'm off to get a Large Diet Coke......

Hoosierlady, I happen to love Diet Coke... without the diet. My wife loves it though.

I'll prolly have to revert to it though before too long. Cut out the bad things for me, you know.

How are you?????

I do agree that, when it comes to diet soft drinks, Diet Coke rules. I used to consume at least 3 a day until I converted to water. After the first few days of water consumption, I actually preferred it to Diet Coke.

Despite health warnings regarding aspartame consumption, I believe most people will continue to use products containing it if no health problems develop. It's just our nature. So, HoosierGirl, I hope you can continue imbibing your daily Diet Coke in good health.

Coca-Cola should get you signed up to do commercials.

I used to be a regular Coke addict - until I switched to water.

I know exactly what you mean, but I am such a sucker for Dr Pepper. it's so bad for the teeth, and everything, but it gives me so much pleasure !! It's the small things in life, don't feel bad!!!

You tortured yourself until you submitted to the horror? Can't stand the stuff, it's just plain nasty - and that goes for all diet drinks. I'll stick to the regular, nice coke and enjoy it. If you leave the can in the freezer for about an hour it's perfect.

Nerdboy - we WILL convert you. Diet coke has seductive powers.....

E.Craig and RWA - You almost make me feel bad enough to switch to water. ALMOST....

Girl on a train - My boys are Dr. Pepper nuts.

York - You're such a purist. What WILL we do with you? (Laugh)

DIET COKE RULES!

Well, let me say this. The primary reason I switched was on the doctor's recommendation after my kidney stone surgery. It wasn't solely by choice.

I really can't stand the taste of Diet Coke, but I have been trying to drink more of it cause of the no calorie thing. I think Caffeine Free Diet Coke tastes a little better than regular diet.
