The Past, the Present, and the Future....

Getting to Know You - Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow:

Where were you in 1987? In school? Working?Single? Married? Attached? What was important to you? What were you doing creatively? Tell us a little bit about your life then:

In 1987 I had just gotten married in June, and I turned 23 in July. I had finished my first year of teaching in South Bend, Indiana. I had a miscarriage later that year, which impacted me deeply. I'm sorry to say but other than that, I was pretty superficial back then. I liked shopping, watching TV, and laying out by the pool. I spent lots of money on my hair and my clothes. But I was doing a lot creatively then, too. I learned to crochet that year and started on my first afghan. I took sewing lessons, and made the quilted Christmas tree skirt that still goes under my tree every year. I was doing a lot of cross-stitching, too. I wish I had put that "child free" time to better use.

Where were you in 1997? What would you like to share about the 90s?

For me, the 90s were the "baby years". In 1997 I had 3 young children, ages 7, 5, and 3. I was a full-time stay-at-home mom then, and I babysit a brother/sister pair to make money. We had no money to do anything, but I loved being home with the kids. It was the year of my 10th anniversary, but we couldn't afford to go anywhere. I started taking classes toward my Masters degree, thinking I would go back to full-time teaching when Daniel started school. I loved getting out and stretching my mind. It was a very fulfulling time in my life.

Where did you plan to be or think you would be in 2007? Have you realized your goals? What is one thing about your present life you love and one thing you would like to change?

Have I realized my goals? Yes and no. I thought I would be married by 2007, or at least happy in my love life. That was a goal of mine after my divorce 5 years ago. I thought I would have been able to buy a different house by now. But I am able to take care of myself and my family. I do own my own home, and 2 years ago I bought my very first brand-new car all by myself. I have my Masters' degree and I am working in a profession I enjoy. What is one thing about your present life I love? I don't know, that's a tough one. I'm not really happy in my life right now. I guess it would be my kids. I really enjoy them. What is one thing I would change? There isn't just one thing. I would like to change my whole life, honestly.

How do you see your life in 2017? Do you have any goals or dreams for your future?

Wow, this is a great thing to think about. In 10 years my children will be 27, 25, 23, and 17. 3 of them will be out in the adult world, possibly married and/or with children. I could be a grandmother. (oh God!) Aaron will be a senior in high school. I can't even begin to imagine it. I will be (gulp) almost 53. Hopefully I will have a life partner by then. I want to live in the country. I want to change careers and do something less stressful and more creative, like maybe writing. I hope these next 10 years will be some of the best in my life., so I want them to go slowly.

Thanks to Lisa for the meme.

I didn't know you taught in South Bend. I grew up around there.
