OK - I think I have got it figured out. Coffee plants are not indigenous to Earth. Coffee was brought here by aliens.
As part of the Alien's "master plan," the natural inhabitants of Earth shall be slowly converted to fresh-roasted coffee beans that will be shipped to customers the same day roasted.
Once the entire population of Earthlings are on board, so to speak, the Aliens will begin lacing the beans with a chemical from their planet.
Then, total mind control will be accomplished, and Earthlings shall be enslaved by the Aliens to do their bidding in all things.
The Aliens have developed strains of coffee plants that will grow in every climate. All Earthlings will eventually be producing coffee beans. This produce shall be exported to other galaxies by the Aliens in order to support their economy.

Man, now that's a coffee addiction!
You gave me a laugh AND a craving for a caramel frappuccino.
