I Love Coffee....and other thoughts.

Inspired by the interesting artwork on E.Craig's blog, I decided to liven up my blog as well. I found this one by doing a Google search and I really like it.

I love coffee. What's crazy is that for most of my adult life I didn't like it. I gave my ex-husband hell most of our married life for making a mess on the counter with his sugar spills and coffee spoons. I made fun of people who obsessed about it. And now, I've become one of them.

Today I stopped by my favorite local coffee shop and picked up my usual large mocha latte, only today I got it iced. It was good. I think I need that extra boost in the morning, either from my own coffee pot or from the coffee shop.

Today is my second "official" day of summer break. Yesterday I cleaned like hell and got a lot accomplished around here. I absolutely drove the kids crazy with making a schedule, assigning jobs, and generally trying to get things in order.
I think I have come up with a pretty good system. This week Rachael has Driver's Education every day from 8-11, Daniel has football camp from 10:00-11:30 every day, and Aaron has swimming lessons from 10-11. In the midst of all that, Joseph is trying to get a job, but it's looking good for Kroger, Target, or Penn Station. I really don't care. They are all close and they're jobs.

Today I went over to the school we're using for summer school, which starts next week. I am partnered with another teacher, and together we have 17 1st graders for 3 weeks. It looks it is going to be fun, and it's salaried pay above and beyond my regular pay. Can you say "family vacation money"? I am really excited about the extra funds!

I am feeling a little stressed about all the things I still need to do. I'm trying to remind myself to pace myself and to breathe.

There IS going to be time to relax, right?

I make fun of people who are coffee obsessed. I've tried coffee. I've tried to be cool and drink huge cups of coffee from Starbucks. But I just don't like it.

First graders in summer school? That's kinda rough isn't it?

This summer school is VOLUNTARY. It is targeted at our needy students and low readers. We are using a downtown school near the projects, we are providing FREE breakfast and lunch, and providing FREE transportation. It is costing approximately $30,000 for salaries, materials, transportation, and food for a 3 week program. We are also giving each child a paperback book (that he/she can pick from a huge selection we purchased from Scholastic). No grades or homework will be given.

Oops, I left out part - we are giving each child a book EVERY FRIDAY - so they will get 3 new books in the 3 week program.

I am very proud of our school for providing all this for our kids.

In a bout 20 years I think. My days of relaxing are numbered. Try to take a day for yourself at some point.

Great graphic there, J. Sounds like you have it all planned out. I know your kids keep you hoppin'. Happy Summer 2007

J, I love your graphic. Way cool.

Although you are being paid, it is admirable that you choose to teach this summer. Some teachers, as you know, earn summer money doing other than being in the classroom. It is commendable that you give of yourself to help those youngsters.

What a wonderful program that gets them to school, starts their day with breakfast, provides a lunch, and gives to each child three books of their choosing.

I wish you the best summer ever.
