Question.....

I know this is going to sound silly, but can stress make you have to go to the bathroom?

You know how some people, when they're stressed, throw up every morning? Well, every morning for almost a week, I have a gut-wrenching, bowel-emptying trip to the bathroom, sometimes two! And I've hardly been eating, so it makes me wonder where it's all coming from! It's so strong that I feel sick before it happens and during.

Should I go to the doctor, which I don't have time to do, or ride it out?

Yes - stress can do that. So can the flu and giardia. So can colon cancer. If it doesn't clear up in a few days, you might consider visiting your MD. Just to be on the safe side.

I've had giardia before. Not fun.

Yes, absolutely, J.

I have had highly emotionally charged occasions that caused extreme stress. Within an hour I would be having diarrhea-like evacuation, and gut-wrenching discomfort.

Your time-line on this appears to coincide with the news about your daughter's tuition. Perhaps you are starting your day with apprehension about how everything will turn out. As resolution progresses, you should start feeling better.

As sayre points out, a visit to your doctor might be considered if this stuff continues beyond a few more days.

Thanks, Dave.

Actually, the tuition situation is only part of it. It really has more to do with work.

And it's hard to go through all this alone.

I will heed your advice. I will see the doctor soon.

We have wonderful pharmaceuticals that can help us over the rough spots.

Or get an AK-47 and eliminate the problems at work.

I guess the safe bet is the doctor visit.

Everybody's body reacts differently to stress. It can definitely cause that.

But, maybe seeing the doctor wouldn't be a bad idea.

Also, take a look at your diet, J. I'm talking 'nutrition'. And, have you been consuming something over the past few days that you normally don't include in your diet?

Craig, my bet is that J has been eating fried grasshoppers at bedtime. She likely has decided to try them since we liked them so much.

Stress can do that. Ugh. Horrid isn't it? Hope you feel better with it soon.

Hope you feel better J. I hope worrying about it doesn't cause you more stress.

Wait a minute. Did Brother Dave actually suggest taking an AK-47 to work?

While that might solve your bowel issues, it would likely create you some new problems in prison - or the psych ward!

Brother Dave - You know ... she went for the coffee! I'll bet J is now hooked on fried grasshoppers.

RWA - Brother Dave is always thinking of the simple solution to problems no matter how unconventional.

Craig, Dave, and RWA -
NO to the AK47, and NO to the grasshoppers, although duct tape has been in serious consideration. (laugh)

I DO have to say that if Craig said the fried grasshoppers were as conparably good as the coffee, I might be tempted....

And, in case anyone was wondering, yes, it happened again this morning but not as bad, and only once.
